Saveetha students win ROBOCUP title

Students of Saveetha Engineering College represented India in association with ROBOIN, the Robotic training institute, and have won the ‘World Championship' title in the ROBOCUP 2010 competition held from June 19 to 25 at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Singapore.

Bhavana, Priya Kankanala, Hemashree Vijayakumar, Jayapriya Raja and Saranya Prabhakar were selected by ROBOIN through various test levels.

The Robocup 2010, widely known as the Olympics in robotics, was held in Singapore where the team members of Saveetha Engineering College represented India and competed in Rescue B and Dance League with 49 countries. In Rescue B, the team managed to capture the 11th position. In Dance League, the team had three Lego Platforms and one Bioloid Robot.

The Lego are designed to appear like girls dancing with Bioloid, and after many rounds of performances the team was finalised for the Super Team Finals among the other teams. In the finals, the Indian team re-assembled all the robots and changed the appearance of every robot.

Commenting on the achievement, N.M. Veeraiyan, chancellor, Saveetha University, said, “Engineering education can no longer remain theoretical. Students have to be inspired to apply what they learn in the classrooms and blossom into creators of innovative ideas and products. Students of Saveetha Engineering College have achieved exactly the same.”

Jaishankar, proprietor, ROBOIN, said, “We are happy not only because of the Super Team World Championship but also for making other countries to look at India and Indians as pioneers in technology. It gives us immense pleasure winning the title by competing with very strong teams from USA, Germany, Japan, China, and other countries.”

Hostel

  Saveetha Engineering College has two seperate hostels, one for women and the other for men. The hostels are located within the campus. All the needsw of the inmates are given immediate attention so as to provide a homely atmosphere and a purposeful environment.
          The hostels at present can accomodate 450 men students and 250 women students, with single rooms, double occupancy and dormitory type. A very unique feature of the hostel is that 50% of the rooms have been provided with baths equiped with individual geysers. all rooms have provisions to connect to the common Internet facility, and has plug ins for computers and telephones. About Saveetha . . . .

Saveetha Engineering College was started in the year 2001by the Saveetha Medical & Educational Trust, which is committed to develop this college into a renowned institution for Engineering education and research. It is   headed by Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan a committed and dedicated Medical Professional.

          The campus of Saveetha Engineering College is spread over a scenic area of around 120 acres.facing chembarambakkam lake on the Chennai- Bangalore National Highway(NH4). Located at about 8Km from Poonamalee townshipThe college buildings are laid out amidst a serene environment. Circular Block which has a built up area of  2,20, 000 sq feet, housesDepartments of CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, MBA & MCA, Administrative office, Library, Placement cell and Examination Cell. A seperate block with a built up area of 70,000sq feet houses the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Science & Humanities.

          A spacious canteen and well equiped laboratories with state of the art computers equipment and gadgets are some of the features of this college. Seperate rest rooms for boys and girls are provided in the college campus.The campus also houses well-ventilated seperate hostels for boys and girls. In all the students are provided with an atmosphere conducive to pursue their studies freely.

          The college motto, 'BE THE BEST', carries a message to the students that they should aim for the best in education, culture and achievement. Nothing less than the 'Best' is acceptable in Saveetha Engineering College.
